Beach festival, Oceanfest 2018, hosts third Match Day in England’s National League
This weekend saw a twenty-year-old festival play host to Match Day 3 of the English National Beach Soccer League, with many players from the England team showing off their skills on the sand.
Match Day 1 of the Men’s National League was played earlier in the summer on the Isle of Wight, off the south coast of England.
BS Gunners dominated in the league’s second Match Day in Portsmouth, taking nine out of nine points, and England’s Cameron O’Rourke picked up the tournament’s Top Scorer award.
However, Match Day 3 would be a little different. The idyllic Croyde Bay, North Devon would be the backdrop, as the third Match Day took place as a part of Oceanfest 2018, a family friendly festival for lovers of music and sport, which has been running for twenty years!
The participating teams were: Eastleigh Spitfires, BS Gunners, Chelsea BSC, Isle of Wight BS, Portsmouth BS, North Devon BSC
The hosts, North Devon, kicked off the event with a crowd-pleasing performance, beating Portsmouth by three goals to none in the opening game. However, it was Eastleigh Spitfires and Isle of Wight BS who would end the day on top with two victories each.
Eastleigh Spitfire now move two points ahead of BS Gunners in the overall league table, and the Match Day 3 individual awards were as follows:
MVP – Josh Younie (Isle of Wight BSC)
Top Scorer – Joe Maxwell (Eastleigh Spitfires)
Best Goalkeeper – Tommy Jackson (Isle of Wight BS)
As summer draws on and warms British beaches, more and more beach soccer events seem to be springing up in England, and with new events like Oceanfest on board, it’s a great way to spread the beach soccer love!
