Maryzillians and SOaR-CAL rule in Virginia

Both sides stayed perfect to claim the Premier Divisions of the North American Sand Soccer Championships

Maryzillians tightly overcame HSRC Elite (3-2) in the final of the North American Sand Soccer Championships, thus retaking the crown they lost in 2019 to UBSC. The Maryland side banked on the talent of Salvadoran internationals Frank Velásquez and Eliodoro Portillo and USA internationals Tanner Akol and David Mondragón, who gave a very balanced squad the extra spice to prevail on the sand of Virginia Beach.

Maryzillians stood perfect all throughout the competition and did not concede a single defeat. After ruling Group A, in which they beat 3rd place finishers Vitória FC (5-3) and Socal Legacy BSC (5-2), the Marylanders gave NBSL few options in the semifinals (4-7), securing a place in the final against the hosts HSRC Elite.

Soar CAL win Women’s competition

US Soccer internationals studded SOaR Cal became the champions at the Women’s Premier Division, following a 5-2 win over SEVWSA in the final of the competition.

With talented and experienced players such as Lauren Leslie, Samantha Witteman, Ali Hall, Jeane Sunseri-Warp, Christie Yount, Luisa Meza, Danielle Kovacevic Kierra Scalercio, Savannah Berry, Vanessa Amaral or Kelly McShane, and the support by Megan Wharton from the bench, the California side where definitely not short in beach soccer grasp and managed to knock out all their opponents to brilliantly clinch the throne.

The fight for the title began straight from the group stage, where the two strongest sides were drawn together. Yet in the first game, SEVWSA and SOaR CAL brought on a terrific beach soccer battle, with SOaR CAL bagging the points thanks to a tight 8-6 win.
