The 2nd day at the Istanbul Cup saw a big comeback from the Russian club and a statement game from the Turkish club
FC Lokomotiv finshes strong to close out Al-Ahli
The 6-4 victory for FC Lokomotiv from Russia over Al-Ahli FC from the UAE was a back and forth match that saw the mettle of both teams. Lokomotiv scored first but then took the foot off the pedal and faced a deficit, though they clawed back and snatched the win. The first win of the tournament for the Russuan club puts them in contention for the title as they will face the undefeated hosts, Besitkas JK on Sunday. The loss did not sit well for the UAE club because they were up and then lost but they will be able to fight for a victory in their last match on Sunday against Milano BS.
Lokomotiv began quickly and scored early in the first period to take the lead. Al-Ahli quickly responded and rattled off three goals over the first and early part of the second frame. Holding on to a two goal lead sounds easier than it is against the Russian club. Lokomotiv then fired back and scored three goals in the second period to take a one goal lead into the last frame. The final frame was a great example of the Russian teams´ attack as they added two more goals and limited the Al-Ahli offense by shutting them out.
Goals: 1-0: Rafinha, min. 9 (1); 1-1: Baris, min. 8 (1); 1-2: Baris, min. 5 (1); 1-3: Walid, min. 10 (2); 2-3: Shoshnin, min. 9 (2); 3-3: Budzko, min. 3 (2); 4-3: Poliakov, min. 2 (2); 5-3: Shosnin, min. 11 (3); 6-3: Poliakov, min. 7 (3).
Besitkas JK holds off Milano comeback
The 6-4 win for the host club, Besitkas JK was exhilarating and sets up an exciting final showdown on Sunday. The Turkish club went down early, then furiously took the lead and in the end had to fend off a hat-trick and rally from Leo and Milano. Besitkas will play Lokomotiv on Sunday. The loss was disappointing for Milano after they defeated Lokomotiv on Sunday, though they can rebound on Sunday against Al-Ahli, with none of the final standings secured yet.
The first period was a striker’s delight with both teams scoring left and right and the frame ended with Besitkas up 3-2. Many adjustments were made by both coaches going into the middle period and it showed as neither team scored, setting up an even better final period. The last frame saw the Turkish club balloon their lead to three goals but the third goal from Leo brought Milano to within one goal with five minutes remaining. Besitkas stopped the bleeding and scored one more goal to secure the victory.
