Kogi Confluence claim Nigerian CBN Cup

Red side completed a perfect run and were crowned sand kings in their first-ever appearance at a national scale

The second edition of the CBN Beach Soccer Cup 2013 took place at Nigeria?s first permanent Beach Soccer pitch in Abuja ? FCT, with great excitement, fun and lots of entertainment as expected.

This second successful edition of the CBN Beach Soccer Cup, an event designed specifically to promote the development of the Nigeria Beach Soccer League (NBSL) scheduled to kick-off in 2014 proved the sport is progressing towards a high level of development in the country.

Amongst the 8 participating teams this year, five were newcomers to the competition, namely Team Kaduna BSC, Nasarawa BSC, Anambra BSC, Team FCT BSC and Kogi Confluence BSC. Their participation is another reflection of the growing interest, nationwide spread and success of the sport in Nigeria.

Team FCT BSC playing the game the first time turned out to be a fantastic host and went all the way to the finals, where they met Kogi Confluence BSC, earmarked as one of the big favourites to a hand full of experienced players. Indeed, the most valuable player of the tournament, voted by the media, was Babatunde Badmos, one of Kogi’s target men.

The cup left the defending champions, Fidelity Bank PLC, who failed to return for a defense of their title, which flew to the Kogi boys, who completed a perfect run at the tourney and were crowned sand kings in their first-ever appearance at the national scale in the country.

After strong performances in all of their matches before the final, the Confluence Boys took the lead in the last game and clinched a convincing 9-2 victory over Team FCT BSC to become champions. Team Kaduna BSC overcame Nasarawa BSC to secure the third place.

The tournament’s top-scorer went to Taiwo Abdulraman of Team FCT, while Isa Abdulahi of Team Kaduna BSC was named the Best Goalkeeper.
