The Iranian National Women’s Championship, which just finished its 6th season, becomes one of the most solid testimonies of Beach soccer’s expansion
September 5th, 2014 marked the beginning of the latest women’s beach soccer league season in Iran and it was even more exciting than the past successes. This year there were eight teams split into two groups. Group 1 consisted of Arsen Minasian, Sobhan Tiran, Khazar poushan, and Kerman. The 2014 champions, Shahrdari Bandar Abbas hailed from Group 2, which included Haram Genaveh, Shahrdari hashtgerd, Farsan Chaharmahl, and of course Shahrdari Bandar Abbas.
The teams began battling on the first weekend in September, first playing only teams in their group, until the best two were left standing. Those two teams from each group then formed the elimination round. The two winners of the semi-final matches were Shahrdari Bandar Abbas and Kerman, which created an exciting final that Shahradari eventually won. Haram Geaveh lost in their semi-final match but prevailed in the consolation match to earn 3rd place. Apart from finishing in 2nd place, Kerman also had the leagues’ top scorer Fatemeh Sohrabi, who notched a remarkable 35 goals on the season.
Next season looks to be just as emotional and competitive as Shahdrari Bandar Abbas will look to defend their title and they will have a target on their back as the defending champion.
