Both nations clinched victories on Sunday, with the former champions doing so in style.
Iran and Afghanistan warmed up for their intriguing encounter on Monday after each claiming impressive wins on day two of the AFC Beach Soccer Championship in Malaysia.
The sides meet in the final game of the day tomorrow in what promises to be an entertaining and decisive contest in terms of who progresses from Group A.
Former winners Iran opened their 2017 campaign in style as they hammered hosts Malaysia 14-0.
Fresh from their Persian Beach Soccer Cup success on home sand, the 2013 Asian champions proved a cut above their opponents, with Mohammadali Mokhtari and Farid Boulokbashi each bagging hat-tricks.
Earlier, Afghanistan moved outright top of the pool with a 7-2 win over a China side still without a point. Rohullah Rastagar saw his side down Malaysia on the opening day and, once again, Afghanistan showed their clinical side going forward.
Raof Qaderi and Sami Ullah Mohammadi proved the main sources of inspiration as they helped maintain Afghanistan’s strong start to proceedings in Kuala Terengganu.
