The international competition is set to kick off in Russia on 21 April
Another top beach soccer event is about to return to the calendar, as the InterCup 2021 approaches.
From 21 to 25 April, the international tournament, the InterCup, will be held at the Dynamit Sports Centre in St. Petersburg. It will be the fourth edition of the event, the first one being held back in 2017.
Local club Kristall won the title that year, and Oleg Barinov’s team has since claimed the most editions: two of the three. The only other winners were the Russian national team in 2019, when Kristall had to settle for second place.
Mikhail Likhachev’s squad will also take part in the 2021 InterCup, the same year that Russia will host the FIFA Beach World Cup. The Belarusian national team will also take part in the tournament.
They will compete alongside clubs from the Russian Super League, the strongest national championship in the world: Lokomotiv (Moscow), Kristall (St. Petersburg), Delta (Saratov), CSKA (Moscow), Krylia Sovetov (Samara) and LEX (St. Petersburg).
The eight participants will be divided into two groups of four following a draw which will take place on 11 April. The top two teams of each group will continue to fight for medals in the semi-finals.
The group stage will be held from 21 to 23 April, the semi-final games will be on 24 April and the final games on Sunday 25 April.
All of the games will be streamed live on the Beach Soccer Worldwide website.
