The Talent Beach Soccer Cup hosts proved too hot to handle on home sand.
Hosts Hungary produced an impressive clean sweep at the Under-21 Talent Beach Soccer Tournament in Siofok – claiming maximum points to top the standings at the four-team event.
Competing alongside three other young sides, beach soccer’s first under-21 event began on Friday and culminated on Sunday with the Hungarians picking up wins against Poland, Belarus and France.
Hungary began the event by seeing off Poland 3-2 after Belarus had edged past France 4-3, before the eventual champions beat Belarus 3-1 on Saturday, while France were too strong for Poland in a 4-1 success.
Poland ran out 8-4 winners against Belarus in Sunday’s first game, before the final outing for the champions, which culminated in a 4-2 win for the home side.
There was further success for Hungary as Tamas Szentes-Biro was named MVP while team-mate Viktor Turos shared the top scorer honour jointly with Poland’s Filip Gac – both of whom registered five goals.
France’s Lorenzo Dupin was named best goalkeeper, as Siofok was left to reflect on a successful and groundbreaking event, less than two weeks before the city hosts the third Euro Beach Soccer League stage.
