Chile, Senegal, Italy and defending champions Brazil all impress
Group C
Chile win 7-6 against Tahiti.
Chile secured a narrow 7-6 victory over Tahiti in a high-scoring contest to kick off their group stage journey. The opening period ended evenly at 2-2, with Albuerne and San Martin scoring for Chile, while Salem struck twice for Tahiti.
In the second period, Chile gained momentum with a flurry of goals from Tobar, Duran, Opazo, and Bacian, establishing a four-goal cushion. Salem completed his hat-trick and Tinirauarii added another for Tahiti, but Chile held a 6-4 advantage heading into the final period.
Tahiti pushed relentlessly in the third period and late goals from Tinirauarii and Terorotua in the final minute gave them hope, but Opazo’s second goal in the final two minutes ultimately sealed a 7-6 win for Chile in a closely contested Group C clash.
Senegal win 4-1 against Spain
Senegal began their Group C campaign with an emphatic 4-1 victory over Spain, delivering a performance marked by power, precision, and discipline. Sanou Laye opened the scoring early in the first period, giving Senegal the advantage.
The highlight of the second period came from Senegal’s Goalkeeper, Seyni, whose trademark long-range strike from his goal area stunned the Spanish side, doubling Senegal’s lead to 2-0.
In the final period, Sidy and Sylla added to Senegal’s tally to put the result beyond doubt. Spain’s only goal came late from Antonio to get his nation on the scoresheet in their opening, but it served as only a consolation in the end.
Group D
Italy win 7-4 against Oman.
Italy opened their Group D campaign with a commanding 7-4 win over Oman. Fazzini struck early to put the Azzurri ahead in the first minute, followed by a well-taken goal by Zurlo in the fifth minute. Oman responded late in the first period, with Sami finding the net in the ninth minute and Yahya equalising moments before the break to end the period at 2-2.
The second period saw heightened intensity as Italy regained control through goals by Bertacca and Genovali, but a strike from Musallam kept Oman in contention, trailing 3-4 heading into the final period.
Despite Yahya’s second goal for Oman in the third period, the Italians pulled away. Remedi added to the tally before Josep Jr netted a brace to secure Italy’s first win of the tournament in emphatic fashion.
Brazil win 3-1 against El Salvador
Defending champions Brazil opened their group stage journey with a strong 3-1 win over El Salvador. The first period saw a single breakthrough, with Rodrigo putting Brazil ahead with a clinical finish.
El Salvador responded in the second period through Ramos, whose equaliser levelled the match at 1-1 heading into the final stretch. Despite numerous attempts from both sides, defences held firm and goalkeepers impressed.
The Brazilians found their edge in the third period, as Thanger and Lucão struck to secure a hard-fought 3-1 victory.
