The 2016 Swedish Beach Soccer Championships took place this weekend in Kalmar.
Glomminge IF and Vetlanda United tasted success in the Swedish Beach Soccer Championships this weekend, claiming the men’s and women’s titles respectively in Kalmar.
Glomminge successfully defended their crown, having also been the best of the pack a year ago, while Vetlanda edged an 11-goal thriller against the defending women’s champions FBK Roslagen.
With all the matches being played on Saturday, Glomminge made a rocky start to their defence and found themselves 3-2 down against Bemannia Stockholm, before eventually coming to life in the semi-final.
The holders finished 4-3 ahead and set up a final showdown against Stensjons IF, who had beaten hosts Kalmar 4-2.
The two finalists played out an enthralling final and were level at 2-2 midway through the second period before the eventual champions pulled clear, rattling in six unanswered goals to emphatically seal another title.
In the women’s competition, Vetlanda began by moving past Hammarby 4-1 in the semi-finals, while holders Roslagen were 6-2 victors against hosts Kalmar.
The final proved a more close-run contest than their male counterparts produced however, with Roslagen eventually going down 6-5, surrendering their title to Vetlanda in the process.
