Germany do the double over Czech Republic

Amid EBSL preparations, Germany have the edge over two hard-fought contests in Prague.

Germany picked up back-to-back wins against Czech Republic in Prague last weekend but were made to work hard for their victories by the hosts.

The friendly matches formed part of the Central European Cup and also served to aid the nations’ build-ups to the Euro Beach Soccer League, which gets under way in Moscow on July 1st.

Both Germany and Czech Republic make their bow in this year’s EBSL during the second stage in Sanxenxo, Spain, and the sides will have taken plenty from two competitive meetings in the Czech capital on Saturday and Sunday.

In Saturday’s game, player-coach Martin Chalupa gave Czech Republic the ideal start when he opened the scoring but Germany responded and were 4-3 to the good going into the final 12 minutes.

The final period belonged to the visitors as Sacha Weirauch, Christian Biermann and Oliver Romrig all registered to help ensure a 7-4 success.

Chalupa was also on form in the second game of the weekend, grabbing a hat-trick on Sunday, only for Christoph Thurk to register three minutes from time, making it 4-4 and taking the game to penalties.

From there, Chalupa and Salak each failed with their spot-kicks while Thurk and Weirauch found the back of the net – wrapping up two entertaining and useful match-ups in their country’s favour.

The competition continues on June 18th and 19th when the Czechs take on Slovakia before the sides feature in the finals a week later alongside Austria and Denmark.

Both Czech Republic and Germany now know their fixtures for the EBSL stage in Sanxenxo, with the former up against Norway and the Netherlands in Division B – Group 1.

Germany are alongside Switzerland, Greece and Portugal in Division A – Group 2, with all fixtures and group standings available at www.beachsoccer.com.
