Mexico, US, El Salvador and Guatemala reach semis of the Concacaf Beach Soccer Championship
Mexico, United States, El Salvador and Guatemala all reached the semifinals of the 2021 Concacaf Beach Soccer Championship with quarterfinal victories on Friday at the Sports Complex Fedefutbol-Plycem in Alajuela, Costa Rica.
Mexico started off the day with their quarterfinal against Bahamas and fell into an early 3-0 hole, but would rally thanks to goals from Diego Rodriguez, Gabriel Macias, Salomon Wbias and Cristofher Castillo to force extra time. In the extra period, Rodriguez would secure Mexico’s passage to the next round with the winning goal.
For Bahamas, Wood Julmis bagged a brace, while Jean Francois and Timothy Munnings added scores.
Another exciting contest saw the U.S. outduel Panama 4-3. Gabriel Silveira notched a pair of goals, while Christopher Albiston and Nicolas Perea chipped in with goals for the U.S.
Panama got goals from three different players, with Alfonso Maquensi, Luis Quintero and Rafael Garcia etching their names on the scoresheet.
El Salvador’s high-flying attack was back on display in a 9-2 win over Trinidad and Tobago. Ruben Batres and Francisco Velasquez each scored a hat trick, while a Trinidad and Tobago own goal and scores from Eliodoro Portillo and Exon Perdomo rounded out the scoring for the Cuscatlecos.
Omri Baird and Kevon Woodley scored for the Soca Warriors.
The day was capped by some history, with Guatemala qualifying for their first ever CBSC semifinal thanks to a 6-4 win over Costa Rica.
Christopher Gonzalez and Miguel Gonzalez each scored twice, while Angel Saenz and Pablo Crocker chipped in with goals.
For the Ticos, Roger Mora had a brace and was joined on the scoresheet by Christian Sanchez and Greivin Pacheco.
