The Brazilian team beat Botafogo become the first-ever South American side to reign in Oceanside
Fortaleza EC sealed their first ever Beach Soccer USA Cup, the first ever won by a South American team, after edging compatriots Botafogo in the final of the competition, played yesterday.
Botafogo, who reached their second consecutive Beach Soccer USA Cup, saw their chances vanish again in the last match, despite banking on the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, Bernardo Botelho.
Amazingly, Fortaleza stayed perfect on the Californian sand after losing their first game in the competition, against dutch side Beach Soccer Zeeland, and bent the last US side in the competition, Go Beachsoccer, in the semifinals.
These were the Individual Awards winners of the competition:
MVP: Bernardo Botelho (Botafogo)
Top Scorer: Igor Rangel (Fortaleza)
Best goalkeeper: Chris Toth (GoBeachsoccer)
