Europe’s elite ready for Nazaré tests

The continent’s best will compete at the Euro Beach Soccer League and the Euro Beach Soccer Cup.

The Portuguese coastal resort of Nazaré once again becomes the home of European beach soccer this weekend when two of the sport’s most prestigious events kick off on Friday.

Both the men’s Euro Beach Soccer League and the women’s Euro Beach Soccer Cup will be played out over the course of the next three days, just a few weeks on from the men’s and women’s Euro Winners Cup club events, also held at the Estadio do Viveiro.

The second stage of the Euro Beach Soccer League will be contested this weekend, the competition having gotten underway in Belgrade a fortnight ago, with hosts Portugal ready to begin their quest for a sixth EBSL title.

Mario Narciso’s side will go up against Italy, France and Switzerland in what promises to be a fascinating Group Two, while Spain – winners in Belgrade – meet defending EBSL champions Ukraine, European champions Poland and Greece in Group One.

With all but one of Europe’s top seven nations in action over the next three days, the second stage of the competition is set to be a thriller, while many of the continent’s best female players will compete for the Euro Beach Soccer Cup.

The competition takes place for a second time, once again in Portugal, with Spain looking to defend the title they claimed in Cascais 12 months ago.

Joaquin Alonso’s team will go up against England and the Netherlands in Group A while 2016 runners-up Switzerland face the Czech Republic and Greece in Group B, with play-offs and the final to be played on Sunday.

All matches due to be held on pitch one will be available to watch LIVE via www.beachsoccer.com/schedule.
