England and The Netherlands claim 1st and 2nd

The English side uses a hat-trick to subdue Sweden while the Orange easily beats Denmark

The Netherlands secure second place

Denmark was unable to penetrate the Dutch defense and wound up losing to the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Tahiti 2013 qualifiers 6-2. The three points earned by The Netherlands gives them the second place trophy in this very competitive event. Denmark finished their first international Beach Soccer tournament with a win, three points, newfound experience and confidence. Holland leaves Sweden with two big wins against talented European rivals.

In the first period of a match that was to decide the first ever Beach Soccer Worldwide Sweden Cup 2013 runner-ups, both teams focused on ball control and the first goal was netted by Ax, the Dutch captain. That wouldn?t be all for the captain, he scored another, only a minute later to put Holland up 2-0. After the second goal, the Danes started attacking more and it meant more scoring opportunities for Denmark but they were unable to score in the first period. The attack first mentality spread the Danish defense thing and allowed Holland to score one more in the period. The period ended with the Orange up 3-0.

The second period started out very fast-paced and continued that way throughout the period. The exciting acrobatic efforts by both teams paid no dividends as spectacular saves and defensive stops neutralized the offense until Holland struck twice near the end of the period. The quick goals did not stop Denmark from attacking and putting together excellent attempts on goal. The Dutch side had wonderful ball movement and defensive intensity to keep the Danes off the scoreboard in the second period. The second period ended with The Netherlands up 5-0.

The third period was very exciting as Denmark used great passing to score their first goal of the match and start their hopes of a legendary comeback.  Early in the period Denmark scored to set the tone for the period. The energy from Denmark was palpable as they scored again in the middle of the period to get within three goals. A goal late in the period for The Netherlands made sure that Denmark would not complete the comeback.

The Netherlands experience in big games showed as they stopped a late comeback to beat the Danish squad and earn second place in the BSWW Sweden Cup 2013. The loss, coupled with the win against host, Sweden, gives Denmark a third place finish in this first year event.

England leaves Sweden Cup without losing

The win over Sweden, 9-3, gave England another three points as they ended the event with three wins in three games, and 9 points. The loss for Sweden means they are still searching for their first international Beach Soccer win. Sweden showed that they will be in the winners circle soon, as they gained invaluable experience against very great competition.

With a quick start, England made sure they left Sweden undefeated. England midfielder, Clarke, made two quick goals to begin the period just the way England wanted to. It was evident that England did not want to let the host nation score early and gain momentum. Late in the period, Clarke scored again to give himself a hat trick and he had the opportunity to score more as England continued to impose their will on the young Swedish team. The English captain, Evans, scored one more goal but Sweden picked up their game and scored as the period wound down. The three lions went into the first break up 4-1.

The second period began with a penalty and a great chance for England to add on another goal, but the Swedish goalie made a wonderful save to keep the score the same, 4-1, England. Sweden grew stronger and started capitalizing on their chances more as the game progressed. In the middle of the second period, Pavel of Sweden, scored from a distance to get the hosts within two goals. Sweden was forced to make some spectacular defensive stops but late in the period, England scored again to put them up 5-1. Just before the second period ended, the English goalie, Webb, scored to put England up 6-2, which is how the period ended.

The period began with both sides exchanging quick goals in the first minutes. The back and forth goals benefited England, as they stayed on top with a three to five goal lead. Sweden began taking more shots at goal, but the English were able to deflect any serious threats. The English team did not let up as their confidence grew and the goals kept coming until the buzzer sounded with England winning by a score of 9-3.

With the win on Saturday over The Netherlands, England had already clinched the first ever BSWW Sweden Cup 2013 but they were not satisfied with just that.
