Meier gives Milan the points in the last minute

The Swiss connection worked fine for AC Milan today as Stankovic and Meier hits, together with captain Ahmed’s header, managed a last minute victory for the rossoneri against Vasco da Gama. Although none of the teams was in danger of being eliminated after having secured their presence in the quarterfinals stage, the game was electric again. Everyone on the sand did its best for the points, acknowledging that the shirt they were wearing deserved until the very last breath.

Betinho swept the Brazilians ahead with a new hit on the 7th minute of the first period, and Milan, although trying to react immediately, found it difficult to neutralize this advantage by the carioca. But they managed not only this, but turning the score around in just four minutes, with the alpine duo Meier and Stankovic taking the honours. The Italian could keep slight that distance for a while, since it was not until the fourth minute of the last quarter that Bruno Xavier equalized it with the 2-2.

Just as the rossoneri had done before, Vasco did not stop here, and Pampero, with a great volley put his side ahead again, only to find, this time, Ahmed’s header to bring the 3-3 just seconds afterwards. Portillo played an important role from that moment on, with great saves that prevented a new Brazilian advantage. When the time was almost over, only 40 seconds to go, Meier found a little crack on Vasco’s defense and with a brilliant shot sent the ball in for his team’s winner.

With this victory, Milan overtakes Vasco in Group B’s table, with Flamengo mathematically on the second position and FC Barcelona established as the group winner.

Goals: 1-0: Betinho, min. 4 (1); 1-1: Meier, min. 9 (2); 1-2: Stankovic, min. 5 (3); 2-2: Bruno Xavier, min. 8 (3); 3-2: Pampero, min. 6 (3); 3-3: Ahmed, min. 6 (3); 3-4: Meier, min. 0 (3)

Sporting regains inspiration just in time (0-5)

Sporting Clube de Portugal recovered their offensive power in their last chance they had to do so to loudly bend Santos in the dramatic fixture that would leave one of the two contenders out of the road. This one to be kicked out was the paulista side, that despite having starred a good tournament, making things difficult to everyone and never giving up, see themselves out of the quarterfinals due to that last three points that have raised the Portuguese above them.

First period stood as the clearest evidence of how much was at stake. Bothe teams did not want to suffer any harm and the game was absolutely cautious for both sides. But that dramatically changed after the first break. Sporting started their attacking engines, full throttle, and immediately got a great advantage, thanks to an unfortunate deflection by Dunga in a free kick attempt by Fernando DDI, and Belchior’s double in just three minutes.

All anxiety had vanished from the Portuguese players, who instead of thinking of finishing the game, wanted to get more out of it, as they were feeling really comfortable for the first time in this Mundialito de Clubes. Besides, their defensive mechanisms were working almost perfectly, completing the all-round performance for the Leões, and leaving no chance for the paulista side to begin any comeback.

Two new consecutive lashes at the beginning of the third period finished the game. Fernando DDi completed his hat trick with two great low shots for the 0-5, and secured the way for his team to the quarterfinals.

Goals: 0-1: Fernando DDi, 11 (2); 0-2: Belchior, min. 9 (2); 0-3: Belchior, min. 9 (2); 0-4 Fernando DDI, min. 10 (3); 0-5: Fernando DDI, min. 8 (3)

Lokomotiv reigns in Group A

In the last match of the group stage, Lokomotiv has restated their position as leaders in Group A. After a terrific stroke exchange, and multiple chances for both sides, the match was to be decided in the penalty shootout. After this brilliant performance from both sifdes, in which up to 12 goals were seen during the set time, the Russian soldiers keep 11 points out of 12, an unparalleled figure in this leveled and competitive Mundialito de Clubes.

The offensive power of both sides lead to a game packed with goals and clear chances, in which any distance in the score was meaningful enough to stay safe. Or, if Maci amd Borsuk raised the 4-2 in the score for the Muscovite, Corinthians found resources enough to snatch that two goal distance back and make it theirs…

When Minici headed the 4-6 in with only one minute to go, it seemed impossible that the points could flee out from Sao Paulo. But they did. And it was a Brazilian player the one to change things around. Daniel, the canarinha defender scored two goals in 30 seconds to send the match to extra time.

Those three extra minutes did not see further movements in the score and this superpowers clash needed to be sorted out from the penalty spot. From that 9 meters to the goal line, the Russian team certified their comeback, after Gorchinskiy scored the decisive one for his side, after Minici’s miss.

Goals: 0-1: Yahya, min. 6 (1); 1-1: Shaykov, min. 1 (1); 2-1: Shaykov, min. 11 (2); 3-1: Maci, min. 7 (2); Fabricio, min. 7 (2); 4-2: Borsuk, min. 3 (2); 4-3: Benajmin, min. 1 (2); 4-4: Dannilo, min. 11 (3); 4-5: Yahya, min. 6 (3); 4-6: Minici, min. 1 (3); 5-6: Daniel, min. 1 (6)

Flamengo beats Barcelona in the last Group Stage match

Flamengo managed a brilliant victory over FC Barcelona in the last game of this league stage in Group B of the Mundialito de Clubes. Even though, things do not change in the table, since the Catalan had already achieved distance enough to secure the first place in the group whatever was the final score of this match.

Flamengo managed to get in control of the score very soon, thanks to Anderson’s excellent aim, but Bruno Torres equalized for FC Barcelona. But that was to be the last hit for Barcelona, who felt the exhaustion of their previous matches and the absence of injured Rui Mota and Nico and found it impossible to turn against the carioca dominion when Longa restored the advantage for his team in the last minute of the first period.

Although Barça had a couple of good chances to equalize the score in the second period, Flamengo would not lose their advantage, and André would even widen it with two more goals in the third period to finish this group stage with 8 points.
