Sunday will see the ever-popular event return to Nigeria’s capital with three exciting match-ups
The 2016 edition of the Copa Lagos will once again return to wow spectators on 11th December at Eko Atlantic City in the Nigerian capital.
As in previous years, this edition will feature a combination of beach soccer, music, dance, fashion and celebrity entertainment in what always makes for a thrilling and exciting day out.
When it comes to beach soccer matters, there are three matches slated to take place, starting with the Club Challenge between Enyimba FC and the Pepsi Football Academy and followed by a Celebrity Match between Super Eagles ex-Internationals and various popular Nigerian celebrities.
The final game will be between the Nigerian beach soccer team, the Super Sand Eagles, and the national beach soccer team of Switzerland, who will be in action for the first time since qualifying for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2017 in September.
Since its inception in 2011, Copa Lagos has moved from being the first ever international beach soccer event in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa to being a prominent sporting event in the region.
And, with this year set to continue that progression, ahead of the CAF Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations (December 13th-18th), excitement is definitely building further around beach soccer in Lagos.
Samson Adamu, Managing Director of Kinetic Sports, said recently: “This year’s edition is a one-day event because of the upcoming CAF Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations tournament – which also serves as the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup qualifier for Africa.
“Our dream is to make Copa Lagos bigger than just a beach football tournament, and a major spectacle that will put Nigeria in the global tourism space and promote beach lifestyle in Lagos.”
