Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Paraguay took wins on the first day of the CONMEBOL Sub 20
The next generation of South America’s beach soccer talent competed in the opening day of the CONMEBOL Sudamericano Sub 20 de Fútbol Playa.
The matches began on Sunday at the Los Pynandi stadium, where the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup finished less than two weeks ago in Luque, Paraguay.
Heavy rain didn’t put the athletes off their game on the first matchday of the competition, which saw early wins for Brazil, Argentina, Colombia and Paraguay.
The tournament, which concludes on Sunday 15 December, is being fought between nine Under-20 sides in a two-group format. The two teams with the highest points in each group will make it to the semi-finals.
Group B
The beach soccer action started in Group B, as Argentina kicked off the tournament, with a tight 5-4 win against Chile.
In the other game, Brazil and Ecuador contested a thrilling tie, which ended with a victory for the Canarinha, also by five goals to four.
Argentina and Brazil share the group’s top position, both with three points.
Uruguay, the fifth team that makes up Group B, had a free day on Sunday.
Group A
The other group saw less balanced matches take place as Colombia put six past Bolivia who only managed two in response.
Meanwhile, hosts Paraguay closed the opening day with a 7-5 victory against their Peruvian rivals.
Paraguay and Colombia are placed at the top of the group, with three points each.
