Official draw for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2013 Qualifier, held at Home of FIFA, distributes the teams into two groups
As Romans would say: Alea Iacta est at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2013 ? CONMEBOL Qualifier. Caesar?s troops did never get to Argentina, of course, but beach soccer did, and found on Albiceleste sand a passionate crowd who enjoys the game and which is willing to see the nine contenders get to their dominions. The South-American fight to get to Papeete will take place in Merlo, San Luis (Argentina), but the Home of FIFA, in Zurich, set the groups for the clash today, in the official draw for the competition.
Jaime Yarza, FIFA Senior Beach Soccer Competitions Manager and World Champion and FIFA ambassador Christian Karembeu were on hand at FIFA headquarters to draw the nine participating teams into two groups. Joan Cusco, Beach Soccer Worldwide Executive Vice-president and Damian Dupiellet took also part of a ceremony lead by Beach Soccer Worldwide Head of Competitions, Josep Ponset.
The balls in the pots finally sent hosts and runner-ups Argentina to group A, together with Colombia, Paraguay, Chile and Peru, as defending champions Brazil will need to combat last edition?s surprise Venezuela, fearful Uruguay and Ecuador.
Only the two best ranked sides will proceed to semifinals, were the winners will automatically secure a place in the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2013. Losers of this first play-off stage will have a second chance, as the match for the 3rd place will also mean the last ticket to Papeete at stake.
The match schedule for the tournament will be released soon.
