Victory in Waterloo ensures LSA Chaudfontaine-Perwez are heading to next year’s Euro Winners Cup.
LSA Chaudfontaine became the latest to team to book their place at the Euro Winners Cup next year after clinching the Belgian championship last month.
A host of teams have already guaranteed their place at the continental competition and, following a thrilling weekend of beach soccer in Waterloo, LSA ensured they too will feature after finishing top of the 12-team competition.
Chaudfontaine were given stern tests early on in the group stage – seeing off Samcro 6-5 and BSZ Waasland on penalties after a 7-7 draw (1-0).
With defending champions Cartel Waterloo eliminated in the first phase, the competition opened up and in the quarter-finals, Chaudfontaine moved past Mojitos 5-2.
La Panne’s quarter-final success against NT Brussels took them into the semis but they struggled to make an impact against the eventual champions in an 8-5 defeat.
The other semi-final was a much more closely contested affair as Vamos played out a 5-5 draw with BSZ Waasland.
Vamos – the competition’s surprise package – were eventually beaten 4-3 on penalties, setting up a final between Waasland and Chaudfontaine.
The latter ran out winners in the sides’ group clash and the rematch proved an entertaining affair, as Waasland battled back from goals down to level at 4-4.
That proved the theme again in the final period as Chaudfontaine moved 6-4 ahead, only for their opponents to drag themselves level again.
However, Jeremy Basquaise proved the winner in dramatic fashion, scoring with just 45 seconds left on the clock to secure his side the title, while Vamos capped a strong tournament by winning the third-place play-off against La Panne 10-6.
