There was hometown success for Cadiz Sotelo in El Puerto de Santa Maria on Sunday.
Cadiz CF Sotelo came out on top in the V Campeonato Nacional de Futbol Playa final on Sunday as they held off a valiant effort from CD Bala Azul to prevail 4-3.
Held in El Puerto de Santa Maria, the event began on Tuesday and featured the best 15 clubs from Spain split into two groups for a six-day beach soccer fiesta.
Having begun strongly with a 6-5 win against Coruxo FC, Cadiz slipped to defeat against neighbours Mentidero Cadiz before recovering to see off Platja de Roses and FP El Puerto – while also hammering Levante 8-1.
After doing enough to progress from Group A, the eventual champions moved past Melistar with a 4-2 win in the quarter-finals before edging Valencia 2-1 in the semis to book a final showdown with Bala Azul.
Azul had beaten Platja de Torredembarra on penalties in the last eight prior to a 2-1 success against Levante and the Blues were on course in the final when Salvador Ballesta put them ahead early in the second period.
However, Cadiz showed their strength to ultimately claim the title with goals coming from Ezequiel Carrera, Cristian Torres and Alejandro Amor (2) as the men in yellow wrapped up a successful week.
