The “Ciclón” bend neighbours Club Libertad and secure berth at the Copa Libertadores
Club Cerro Porteño became the Copa de Paraguay champions following a 4-2 win over Club Libertad in the final held on Sunday.
The great performance by internationals Edgar Barreto, the Top Scorer of the competition, and Joao Rolón, named best goalkeeper, had the red-and-blue commanding during the whole competition and prevailing over their city rivals Libertad in the decider.
Despite opening the score with the first of the two goals by the tournament’s MVP Jesús Rolón, Libertad saw Cerro turn the score around immediately. The goals by Carlos Carballo, Sergio González and Pablo Benítez (2) got things 4-1 for the Ciclón before the end of the second period. Jesús Rolón pulled one back for Libertad, but that could not take the win away from Cerro’s hands.
