The Gverreiros comfortably saw off GR Amigos da Paz to lift the trophy in Nazaré
This season has seen an unstoppable SC Braga claim a third consecutive Euro Winners title, a Mundialito de Clubes title and now, the Portuguese League too.
The final round of the Elite Division was contested on the well-trodden sands of Nazaré, where the Gverreiros do Minho had won their third European title in as many years just months before.
It was the sixth time that the club had won the national championship in their history, and after defeating GD Alfarim and Sporting CP in the previous matches of the final stage of the Elite Division, SC Braga beat GR Amigos da Paz by eight goals to three to finish in first place with the maximum of nine points.
The decisive victory over GR Amigos da Paz began early on with a great goal from Jordan after two minutes, the Gverreiros took control of the match and extended the advantage in the final stage of the first period through Bokinha.
In the second period, the Amigos reduced the score to 3-1, but in the same period the Martins twins increased the gap to 5-1.
In the last 12 minutes of the match, Braga’s superiority continued and the ended at 8-3, with Jordan, Bruno Xavier and Filipe Silva getting on the scoresheet in the last period.
Elsewhere in the Elite League, CD Nacional and GD Sesimbra were relegated to the National Division, whereas the local Nazaré side, ACD Sotao go the other way, and are set to play amongst the big boys in the coming edition.
Sotao won 6-3 against GD Chaves, but both sides secured promotion into the Elite Division for the 2020 season.
But that’s not all from beach soccer in Nazaré, as next week the Portuguese cup begins. Can anyone stop the storming Gverreiros from taking a fourth trophy?
