Mikhail Likhachev (RUS), Mario Narciso (POR), and Tehina Rota (TAH) are the three leaders from the bench that are the final nominees for Coach of the Year
2015 was the biggest year thus far for beach soccer and it is no surprise that the last three candidates for Coach of the Year are from the first, second, and third place teams from the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Portugal 2015. In alphabetical order, they are: Mikhail Likhachev (RUS), Mario Narciso (POR), and Tehina Rota (TAH). All three coaches had spectacular yeas with their teams and the great results have allowed them all to coach in this years’ Samsung Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup 2015 in addition to receiving this honour.
Likhachev finished 2014 as the Coach of the Year and his side finished third in the World Cup so he is hoping that along with the teams’ many successes over the year that he will be able to retain the title. Narciso had arguably one of the most epic seasons that a coach has had since, well Likhachev did in 2013 when the Russian won the World Cup in Dubai and then the Euro Beach Soccer League Superfinal 2013 Torredembarra. Narciso helped guide his Portuguese Selection to titles at the World Cup on home soil, and then the Superfinal in Estonia, all in 2015. Rota was monumental in taking his team to the finals of the World Cup just two years after taking over the reins from Schirinzi who took the Tiki Toa all the way to 4th Place in the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Tahiti 2013.
The final winner will be announced at the Beach Soccer Stars 2015 gala on November 7th in Dubai. The awards ceremony will come at the end of the Samsung Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup, and it is a celebration of the entire year in the sport. On top of the other recognition and accolades these coaches have received this year, it is important to note that the Stars awards are voted on by players and coaches only. The respect and adulation from the peers makes these awards that much more memorable.
