The first round of the Uruguayan national league drew to a close this week.
The opening stage of the Uruguayan Pre-Libertadores League drew to a close on Wednesday, with Bella Vista finishing top of the Torneo Apertura.
The final round of fixtures in the opening stage saw the victors edge Basañez 4-3 on penalties, having ended 6-6 after four periods while Albion beat Progreso 10-9 and Racing saw off defending champions Club Malvin 9-8.
It left Bella Vista two points clear at the summit with the six sides set to meet once again in the Torneo Clausura, which begins on February 5th.
The winners of each Torneo will then meet in the overall final to decide the Uruguayan national champions for 2018, as well as the country’s representative at this year’s Copa Libertadores.
Should Bella Vista win both stages, they will represent Uruguay at the continental event without the need for an overall final.
In between the two stages of the tournament, the separate Torneo Competencia will draw to a close, with Cerrito and Boston River currently joint top on nine points each with one round of matches left.
