Christopher Toth and Ian Bennett honoured in the North American football league.
United States goalkeeper Christopher Toth and Canada’s Ian Bennett have both been named in the 1st Team All-MASL.
Both internationals with their beach soccer sides, Toth was voted All-MASL Goalkeeper of the Year for his work with the San Diego Sockers while midfielder Bennett impressed for his displays with the Milwaukee Wave.
USA number one Toth is not only a revered athlete on the sand but also in other forms of the beautiful game, and was given the Major Arena Soccer League individual award this week. MASL is a North American indoor football league and Toth played a vital role in the Sockers’ recent run to the Western Conference Finals.
Toth was not present when the awards were handed out in Baltimore yesterday but received plenty of plaudits thanks to a .815 save percentage and a 3.66 goals against average.
“Chris has been a central player for many years of success, this season he led the league in saves percentage and was second on goals against,” said Jon Ramin, MASL’s Vice-President of Operations.
Bennett too was named in the division’s all-star team with his career-best 53 goals and 64 points both second-best in the league.
Furthermore, his 14 Power Play Goals were number one in the league and the Canadian tweeted: “So blessed & thankful! Couldn’t have done this without MASL, my Owner, GM, staff, coaches, teammates, family, friends & fans!”
Both players represented their nations recently at the CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship in the Bahamas, with USA finishing fifth while Canada ended in 10th.
