Some of the world’s top sides are in action at the 2019 Games in Patras
The Mediterranean Beach Games have returned after a successful initial edition held in Pescara, Italy 2015 and this time around are being held in Patras, Greece between 25 and 31 August.
In the previous event, the hosting Azzurri swept to victory, topping the medal charts and being helped by their gold-winning beach soccer athletes.
In the 2019 edition, they have the European Games gold medallists Portugal to contend with, as well as numerous top teams from around Europe and North Africa.
The eight teams are split into two groups as follows:
Group A: Greece, Morocco, Portugal and Syria
Group B: Albania, France, Italy and Libya
Beach soccer in this year’s edition will be kicked off when France take on Albania on Wednesday afternoon (13:30 GMT+3).
