Action begins soon with FC Barcelona, Bate Borisov, CA Boca Juniors, FC Locomotive Moscow, Flamengo, Levante UD, Sporting Clube de Portugal, and Valencia CF kicking off tomorrow
May 1st may be a holiday for most, as a day for the workers, but the real work will begin on today at 3:15pm in Port Olímpic, Barcelona. Eight of the best teams from around the world have gathered in Catalonia, Spain for this monumental club event. The opening kick-off will feature one of Portugal’s top clubs, Sporting Clube de Portugal, and the renowned Spanish club, Levante UD. The following match will be between the Russian giants, Lokomotiv Moscow and Argentina’s Boca Juniors club. Hailing all the way from Brazil is Flamengo, who will be playing in the third match of the day against Spain’s Valencia. The final match of the day will be the hosts, FC Barcelona squaring off against Belorussia’s number one club, Bate Borisov.
The event has been years in the making with Barcelona always being considered a dream beach destination and a sport hub recognized all over the globe. Organizing such great teams in one place is a testament to how big beach soccer has become and how important this tournament is. The prime location serves as a symbol for the beautiful city and the idyllic setting for top-flight sports competition.
FC Barcelona has been preparing for this event for more than most as they have been traveling for training camps, playing in international friendlies, and taking part in other club specific events. The Barça squad defeated the National Selection for Qatar in Doha during the FIFA Beach Soccer Portugal 2015 World Cup, to go along with victories they had against African clubs in Nigeria amid the midst of the BSWW Tour Copa Lagos 2014. Their recent history, coinciding with the long and storied history of FC Barcelona only adds to the expectations and excitement for this event.
