Abu Azeez holds beach soccer coaching clinic in Lagos

Nigeria’s all-time top scorer launches The Beach Soccer Project to teach the skills and understanding of beach soccer

Abu Azeez has decided to give something back to his local community by creating The Beach Soccer Project in his home city of Lagos, Nigeria.

Around 100 children, between the ages of six and 14, attended the first edition of his coaching clinic at St. Michael’s Primary School in the Ojo area of Nigeria’s largest city.

Nigeria is one of the international hubs of beach soccer, and the country’s all-time top scorer, is eager to spread the message of our wonderful sport on both a global and grassroots level.

We asked Abu why he founded the project. “What inspired me was the love for beach soccer and my love to grow and improve the sport in my community, in Nigeria, Africa and the whole world.”

He added that this clinic wasn’t going to be just a one-off event.

“This is my first time, but I intend to do it every month, and eventually all over the world if I can get the proper connections.”

Throughout the day, the young players were able to hone their skills alongside a real beach soccer star.

“I teach the kids basic beach soccer skills, scooping the ball, shooting techniques, heading the ball, passing.” Abu explained.

Projects such as this one put together by Abu Azeez, form an essential piece in the ethos and development of beach soccer.

Sparking interest in young players and offering opportunities to practice their skills is crucial for inspiring the next generations of supporters and players.
