Women’s Euro Beach Soccer League: Day 1 round-up

The Women’s Euro Beach Soccer League regular phase is officially underway in Chișinău, with Poland and Italy laying down early markers on Matchday 1. Poland edged out the Netherlands in an eleven-goal thriller ending 6-5, while Italy produced a commanding 4-2 victory over Portugal to get their respective campaigns off to a flying start.

Group C
Poland win 6-5 against Netherlands
The Polish side started brightly in the opening period, surging ahead when Terka opened the scoring just three minute into the game, followed swiftly by a goal from Matusiak as Poland established a commanding 2-0 lead before Syl pulled one back for the Netherlands and Nina levelled the game 2-2. Matusiak struck again for Poland to give her side a slim 3-2 lead before the first break.

Midway thought the second period, Sharona’s goal puts the game on level terms 3-3. But Dall’Ara found the target to restore the lead 4-3 for Poland going into the final period.

The final period remained fiercely contested as Nancy levelled the score at 4-4, but Poland dug deep when Kamińska found the net restored their lead and Świt double the tally 6-4 for the Polish side. Sharona found the net again but Poland held tight to seal the hard-fought 6-5 triumph.

Italy win 4-2 against Portugal
After a goalless opening period where both defences held firm, Vecchione broke the deadlock in the second period to give Italy a 1-0 lead. Late goal from Baldini double their tally 2-0, before Flores pulled one back for Portugal just before the break.

Italy maintained their composure to preserve their lead in the final period, until Ferreira found the net for Portugal to level 2-2. Adami’s goal midway in the period restored the lead for Italy, and Vecchione struck again with to seal a 4-2 victory for the Azurri.
