USA and Mexico face off in men’s and women’s doubleheader


USA and Mexico went head-to-head in both the men’s and women’s competitions on matchday 2 at the Acapulco Beach Soccer Cup 2026. The USA came out on top in both encounters, while Brazil secured victory over Japan in the women’s game and Paraguay delivered a composed performance to defeat Portugal in the men’s competition, making it a day of standout results across the board.

A tightly contested opening period saw both sides well organised in attack and defence, with neither able to break the deadlock, leaving the game goalless heading into the first break.

Brazil took control in the second period, as Giulia opened the scoring shortly after the restart. Adril then capitalised on a rebound to double the lead, before Mayara added a third to restore a two-goal cushion. Japan responded through Hirai’s converted spot kick, reducing the deficit to 3–1 heading into the final period.

In the third period, Brazil managed the game effectively, holding off a determined Japan side to secure a 3–1 victory and their first win of the tournament in Acapulco.

The USA took full control from the outset, racing into a 4–0 lead in the opening period through goals from Adler, Suneri-Warp, and a brace from Hall to establish a commanding advantage.

The momentum continued in the second period as Valentine struck early to extend the lead, before Batmani added another late in the period to make it 6–0, with Mexico still unable to find a response.

In the final period, Phillips added the finishing touch with a superb goal to seal a comprehensive 7–0 victory for the USA.

A tightly contested opening period saw both sides create chances, but neither could find the breakthrough despite impressive efforts in attack and solid defensive displays.

Paraguay took control in the second period, with Martínez producing a sensational finish after faking his shot twice to break the deadlock. Barrios then reacted quickest to a rebound, heading in to double the lead and give Paraguay a 2–0 advantage heading into the final period.

In the third period, Paraguay sealed the result late on as Cantero capitalised on a defensive lapse to slot home a third goal. The 3–0 win secured a composed and clinical performance, earning Paraguay a deserved clean sheet victory.

The USA made a strong start as Canale opened the scoring, but Mexico responded quickly with Ramón converting a corner kick to level the contest. Chávez restored USA’s lead in the closing seconds of the first period to give his side a 2–1 advantage.

The USA extended their lead early in the second period through Akol, but Mexico fought back impressively with three consecutive goals from José, Ramón, and Antonio to turn the game around and head into the final period with a narrow lead.

The final period delivered late drama, as Navas equalised straight from the restart before Chávez struck again to put the USA ahead. Mexico responded through Christo to make it 5–5 in the final minute, but Delbert’s immediate reply sealed a thrilling 6–5 victory for the USA.
