Men’s and women’s competitions get underway in Acapulco
Japan women stole the spotlight on Matchday 1 in Acapulco, delivering a dominant performance to secure victory on their international debut. Other matches on the opening day also produced interesting encounters in both the men’s and women’s competitions, with Portugal and Paraguay impressing, while the USA women edged Brazil in a thrilling contest to set the tone for the tournament.

Women
USA edge Brazil in a nine-goal thriller
USA win 5—4 against Brazil
The USA made a bright start to the match, with Adler scoring the opening goal of the tournament to give her side a 1–0 lead in the early stages of the first period. Brazil responded strongly, and Ester levelled the contest before the break to make it 1–1.

The USA regained the advantage early in the second period through Marinez, but Brazil quickly turned the game around with three unanswered goals from Mayara, Ester, and Isabelle to move into a 4–2 lead. Phillips pulled one back late in the period to keep the USA within reach heading into the final period.
The USA produced a spirited fightback in the third period, as Valentine struck a superb goal to level the contest before Adler stepped up again to complete her brace and secure a dramatic 5–4 victory.
Japan start strong with a commanding win
Japan 4—0 Mexico
Japan marked their international beach soccer debut with a dream start as Fujisawa opened the scoring straight from the opening kick to give her side early control. Takayama doubled the advantage before Fujisawa struck again to complete a commanding 3–0 lead heading into the first break.

The second period saw a quieter spell, with neither side able to add to the scoreline despite Japan maintaining control and managing the tempo of the match.
Fujisawa returned in the final period to complete her hat-trick and seal a convincing 4–0 victory, securing a clean sheet and a memorable debut performance for Japan.
Men
Portugal cruise past USA with dominant victory
Portugal win 8—2 against USA
Portugal made a blistering start to the match as Brilhante struck twice in quick succession to put his side 2–0 ahead. Leo Martins then added a third just two minutes before the first break to give Portugal complete control of the opening period.

The momentum continued into the second period, with Leo Martins scoring again early after the restart to extend the lead. Karlov pulled one back for the USA, but Portugal responded emphatically through Bé Martins and Pintado, who both found the net to take a commanding 6–1 advantage into the final period.
Portugal remained in control in the third period as Bernardo added two more goals to complete a dominant performance. The USA grabbed a late consolation through Canale in the final second, but Portugal secured a convincing 8–2 victory.
Paraguay power past Mexico in eight-goal encounter
Paraguay win 8-4 against Mexico
Paraguay made a strong start, taking a 2–0 lead in the opening period through goals from Medina and Barrios, while Mexico struggled to find their rhythm early on.

Mexico responded in the second period as Ramón pulled one back shortly after the restart, but Medina quickly restored Paraguay’s two-goal cushion. Late exchanges saw Alejandro score for Mexico, while Martínez and Ovelar added for Paraguay to give them a 5–2 advantage heading into the final period.
Paraguay remained in control in the third period, with Barrios, Medina, and Gomes all finding the net. Mexico showed late resistance through two goals from Chrito, but Paraguay secured a convincing 8–4 victory.
