India holds its first National Beach Soccer Championship in Kolkata

Yet another country has joined the beach soccer movement as India hosts its first tournament, the Copa de Kolkata

The India National Beach Soccer Championships 2018 (Copa de Kolkata 2018) will take place between the 10th and 13th of May, in the north-western city of Kolkata. 

The 16-team competition will be structured into four groups of four teams. The winner of each group will then move on to the semi-finals and the two victorious teams will proceed to battle it out in the final to decide who are the champions of India.

Ten of the 16 teams will be local to Kolkata…

• R.A.F.A 

• Wolves FC 

• Big Brothers FC 

• The Happy Club 

• Park Circus FC 

• The Mango Tree 

• T.I.C.T Eagles 

• The Spartans 

• FC FIIOB 

 

…and six will come from other parts of India…

• Assam Rhinos  (Assam)  

• Challengers FC  (Gujarat) 

• Dias United  (Kerala) 

• Kentaurians Sports  (Mumbai) 

• MS7 Football Academy  (Maharashtra)

• FFA Football Academy  (Hyderabad) 

 

The NKDA Stadium, in the heart of the city of Kolkata, will be the venue of the pioneering tournament.  

Every year it seems that beach soccer, its popularity and its global importance keeps growing, as more and more national championships pop up all over the world. 

India is just the latest in a long line of countries who have opened their doors to beach soccer and it certainly will not be the last.
