Tahiti are June’s Movers of the Month!

A sweeping aside of OFC opponents sees Tahiti shoot into 7th in the world ranking

Tahiti won the qualifiers ahead of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2019 on home soil to reach their fifth FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup and be dubbed the Movers of the Month for June.

They move up the ranking by three spots into tenth, after racking up four straight wins – and scoring 52 goals in the process – in the OFC Beach Soccer Nations Cup which took place in Tahiti between 17 and 22 June.

The hosts saw off each of their four groupmates (New Caledonia, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and first-timers Tonga) to clinch the only spot from the OFC (Oceania Football Confederation) region at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Paraguay 2019.

Senegal also shot up the higher end of the table, moving into 11th place following their domination in the first edition of the African Beach Games, while continental rivals Kenya and Algeria also saw big jumps into 72nd and 73rd position.

Solomon Islands made a giant leap of 70 positions up the table after their only defeat in the Oceania qualifier came against champions Tahiti, reaching 35th place.

After making their debut appearances on the beach soccer stage, Tonga and Equatorial Guinea broke into the ranking at 56th and 85th place after competing in the OFC and African qualifiers.

It is always great to see new faces in the ranking and we look forward to seeing many more appearances from these nations in the future.
