Djurgardens IF and GAIS claim Swedish Championships 2018

Two new clubs top the tables in the Swedish men’s and women’s leagues

The Swedish leagues saw new kings and queens crowned this year as Djurgardens IF claimed the women’s title and GAIS took the men’s.

Djurgardens IF won against Vetlanda United IF, who have twice represented the Swedish league at the Euro Winners Cup, in their semi-final tie with a 4-2 win. Beach FF, who won the championship last year, took a 5-3 victory against IFK Kalmar in the other semi-final game.

In the final, Djurgardens IF just managed to edge Beach FF by four goals to three, to be crowned the Swedish beach soccer queens.

In the third-place play-off, Vetlanda United IF enjoyed a comfortable 7-1 victory over IFK Kalmar.

Glomminge have been the champions of the Swedish men’s league for the last three years, but 2018 saw new kings of the beach crowned. In the semi-finals Norsjo IF won 5-3 in extra time against Torsas GOIF.

In the other semifinal match, GAIS put nine past rivals Bemannia FC, who, despite scoring seven goals, narrowly missed out on a place in the final. 

In a thrilling final against Norsjo IF, GAIS were taken right to the edge as the final was decided on penalties. GAIS just won the shootout 4-3 to clinch their first Swedish league title. In third place was Bemannia FC who won 8-4 over Torsas GOIF.
