El Salvador Beach Soccer Cup 2020 to land on Costa Del Sol

The brand-new event is set to debut in El Salvador in early April

BARCELONA / SAN SALVADOR, February 6, 2020 – The Costa del Sol National Stadium (San Luis La Herradura, La Paz) will once again host a beach soccer event of the highest international level, as the El Salvador Beach Soccer Cup 2020 is set to be held between 9 and 11 April. The competition, which will be jointly organized by the National Sports Institute of El Salvador (INDES) and Beach Soccer World Wide, as well as the collaboration and endorsement of the FESFUT, will feature eight of the world’s top teams: four women’s and four men’s.

With this event, INDES and its ad honórem president, Yamil Bukele, reinforce their commitment to women’s beach soccer, which received a strong boost in the regional qualifiers for the World Beach Games, held in August 2019, in San Salvador. The Cuscatleco women’s team made its international debut in this event. The involvement of FESFUT, responsible for managing and promoting the national teams, is also essential.

The Salvadoran official expressed excitement at the country hosting beach soccer event of the highest caliber. “We have invested a lot in this project and we will remain committed to it. Since we assumed the direction of INDES, our commitment to national sport is to take it to the next level, and on that same route our beach soccer warriors are synonymous with motivation and joy for the nation. We are hungry to do our best and what better way to do it than with our fans,” stated Mr. Bukele.

Following on from these comments, Joan Cuscó, president of Beach Soccer World Wide, explained that the trust and prestige that El Salvador has aroused in the world of beach soccer has lead to the granting of official competitions in the modality. “As always, for Beach Soccer World Wide returning to El Salvador is great news. There are few places in the world where you feel the vibe and passion for sport as in this country, and its excellent ability to organize top-level events is beyond doubt.

Meanwhile, Hugo Carrillo, president of the Salvadoran Football Federation, said that, for the governing body of the sport at the national level, “conducting this event is another example of continuing to support our beach soccer representatives. As well as this, the work, the delivery, the courage, the loyalty and the joy that the different selections that participate in that event will generate will continue to be recognized.

INDES’ commitment to elite beach soccer is also more than endorsed with the creation of this new competition, the El Salvador Beach Soccer Cup, which, after the first edition in 2020, is set to become a reference event within the modality in the Concacaf region, thus continuing the growing trajectory that El Salvador has demonstrated over the last decade.

The list of teams participating in this competition will be announced over the next few weeks, but the participation of Salvadoran national teams is guaranteed, both the men’s team, trained by Rudis Gallo, and the women’s team, led by former  cuscatleco international Elías Ramírez. Both finished as runners-up in the regional qualifiers for the 2019 World Beach Games.

The competition format will be Round Robin, whereby each of the four participating teams will face each other once in the same group.
