Group A
Italy win 9-4 against Poland
Italy raced to a 4-0 lead in the first period, with Massa, Illiano and a double from Farnesi putting the hosts in control.
Poland pulled two goals back in the second period, but Italy responded with three more. Adami and Privitera were both on target as Italy took a 7-2 lead into the second break.
Świt and Matusiak found the net for Poland in the third period, but Privitera and Illiano struck once more to seal a 9-4 victory for the hosts.
Group B
Ukraine win 4-2 against Switzerland
In Group B, Ukraine took an early lead, as Kostiuk found the net just two minutes into the first period to make it 1-0.
Kostiuk struck again midway through the second period to double Ukraine’s lead, taking a 2-0 advantage into the final period.
The third period produced four goals. Eisenegger and Schenk scored for Switzerland, while Yorasova and Klipachenko found the net for Ukraine to secure a 4-2 victory.
