The opening stage of the women’s Euro Beach Soccer League Division A season came to an end in El Puerto de Santa María with Switzerland and Spain becoming the first teams to qualify for September’s Superfinal in Viareggio. With only Group A in action in Andalucía, attention now turns to Group B, which will be played in Chișinău, Moldova, from 29 July to 2 August.
Switzerland emerged as the surprise winners of the stage, confirming the remarkable progress they have made in recent seasons. After enjoying a bye on the opening matchday, the Swiss began their campaign with an emphatic 6-1 victory over England before producing one of the tournament’s standout performances to edge hosts and European runners-up Spain 6-5 in a thrilling encounter.
A convincing 4-0 victory against Ukraine on Matchday 4 secured the stage title and qualification for the Superfinal with one game to spare. Although they would eventually suffer their only defeat of the tournament, losing to Czechia in extra time on the final day, the Swiss had already done enough to finish top of the standings.
Spain also booked their place in Viareggio after collecting nine points, finishing second only on the head-to-head tiebreaker against Switzerland. Playing in front of their home supporters, La Selección sealed the silver medal on the final matchday with a hard-fought 5-4 victory over Ukraine.
Ukraine claimed the bronze medal with 6 points and remain firmly in contention for a place at the Superfinal, although their qualification will depend on the outcome of the Chișinău stage.
The Ukrainians’ hopes are closely linked to the performance of Superfinal hosts Italy. Should the Azzurre finish in the top three of Group B, Ukraine will automatically qualify for Viareggio alongside them. However, if Italy finish fourth or fifth, Ukraine’s fate will instead depend on a comparison with the third-placed team from Group B, with only the best third-placed nation progressing to the Superfinal.
With two qualification places already secured and four more still to be decided, all eyes now turn to Chișinău, where the remaining five teams will battle for the final tickets to Viareggio and complete the line-up for the women’s Euro Beach Soccer League Superfinal Viareggio 2026.
