Mário Narciso steps up from his role as Portugal head coach

Bruno Torres appointed new national team head coach

Mário Narciso will change from his role as head coach of Portugal’s beach soccer national team to take on a new position as Advisor to the President of the Portuguese Football Federation and to the National Technical Directorate for the sport.

The new Portugal beach soccer national team head coach will be Bruno Torres, named Beach Soccer Legend 2024, who will assume his duties immediately following the national team training camp that concluded this Monday in Sesimbra.

Mário Narciso’s promotion—approved unanimously through a formal vote of commendation by the FPF Board during its meeting in Coimbra—comes as part of the implementation of the new strategic plan for beach soccer, presented last week at the Cidade do Futebol.

The appointment aims to harness Narciso’s vast national and international experience, having led Portugal for 13 years and guided the team to two FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup titles, five Euro Beach Soccer League titles, one Euro Beach Soccer Cup, four Mundialito titles and a gold medal at the European Games.

Pedro Proença stated:

“On behalf of the Portuguese Football Federation, I would like to personally thank Mário Narciso for his dedication over more than a decade as national team head coach, as well as for his invaluable contribution to the growth of the sport and the many successes achieved with our national team. He is already part of the history of Portuguese beach soccer and will undoubtedly continue to shape its future in this important new role.

His contribution will be key to the implementation of the strategic plan for the next decade, with the objective of making Portugal the world’s leading force in beach soccer.”

Mário Narciso, who was named Beach Soccer Stars Coach in 2015 and 2016, also shared his thoughts on this new chapter:

“It has been a true privilege to contribute, as national team head coach, to the development of Portuguese beach soccer, reflected in the many titles won over more than a decade. It is equally a privilege to remain part of the Portuguese Football Federation in a broader and more strategic role, maintaining the same ambition: to continue contributing to the overall development of the sport and ensuring that Portugal remains a global leader in beach soccer.

I would like to thank the President of the Federation for his trust in me for such an exciting challenge and to highlight his vision for the future of beach soccer in Portugal. Under his leadership, Portuguese football will be even closer to success.”
