The decision was announced today by ANOC after Bali withdrew from commitment to host the event
The ANOC World Beach Games Bali 2023 have been officially cancelled, after the Bali 2023 Local Organising Committee officially notified ANOC that it has withdrawn from its commitment to host the 2nd Edition of the ANOC World Beach Games .
ANOC has made the decision public in an official statement:
“It is with great sadness that we are writing to inform you that the Bali 2023 Local Organising Committee (LOC) has officially notified ANOC today that it has withdrawn from its commitment to host the 2nd Edition of the ANOC World Beach Games and the XXVII ANOC General Assembly in Bali, in August.
Given the timing of the LOC’s very late decision, one month before the Games was due to take place, it will not be possible to find an alternative host and so there is no option but to cancel this year’s edition in Bali. The location and dates of this year’s ANOC General Assembly will be communicated over the next few weeks.
We know that this will come as a great surprise and disappointment, and we express our sincere apologies. We too are shocked by the LOC’s decision, particularly given we have been in daily contact with them, and at no point did the LOC indicate any major issues that would lead to such an outcome. As with any multi-sport event, there were challenges in the preparations, but the LOC gave ANOC absolute assurances that solutions would be found, and the Games would go ahead as planned.
We understand that the decision was taken as the Government has delayed its financial commitments and there is no time to deliver the Games.
Our priority is to ensure your NOC is supported in the best possible way and this includes full reimbursement of your cancellation travel fees (under ANOC travel policies). We will be in contact to discuss this with you further but we first wanted to make you aware of this news now so you can take the necessary next steps.
We know that this will not make up for the disappointment you will be feeling, and we can only apologize again for the inconvenience and distress caused. We will share more details with you in the coming days, including plans for the rearranged ANOC General Assembly.
Thank you for your understanding.
Robin Mitchell, ANOC President
Gunilla Lindberg, ANOC Secretary General”
