The UAE is well prepared to host this spectacular event which hosts the best teams across the globe
Teams are training, the sun is out, and the fans are dying to see the action begin tomorrow, November 3rd, in the 5th annual Samsung Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup Dubai. The hosts have brought in the last two FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Champions, Portugal and Russia, together with some of the most recognizable and respected teams from all the Confederations. The list of teams is as follows: The UAE, Portugal, Russia, Tahiti, Iran, Egypt, Argentina, and Mexico. The eight teams are split into two groups, Group A and Group B. Group A has the UAE, Egypt, Russia, and Argentina. Group B has Portugal, Iran, Tahiti, and Mexico.
Every team has arrived and have been spending the day preparing for the action beginning tomorrow and lasting until the 7th of November. The local organizing committee, along with the Dubai Sports Council have been readying the venue and stadium since the end of last years’ successful tournament, and things have all been completed and finalized for this years’ event.
There are so many things that make this tournament a jewel of the Middle East, like the fans, the officials, and the location, but one of the best things of note are the teams. Portugal just won their first FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in July, and on home soil no less, while the other teams have their own championship pedigree. Egypt recently took home silver in the Mediterranean Beach Games Pescara 2015. Iran, champions in 2013, was a quarterfinalist in the latest World Cup in Espinho, Portugal. Tahiti finished a remarkable 2nd in the last World Cup. Mexico won the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2015 CONCACAF Qualifier – El Salvador. Russia earned a spot here in Dubai as the European Qualifier champions and Euro Beach Soccer League runner ups. The Argentinian side, whose football spirit is out of any doubt, claimed the continental glory in 2013 and of course the hosts, the UAE, have always been a force to be reckoned within the AFC.
This year the event has even more significance because there will be the IV FIFA Beach Soccer Workshop, a gathering of the biggest names in the sport to discuss the latest news and trends from the past year. The seminar will take place on November 6th. Moreover, there will be the 2nd Beach Soccer Stars award ceremony, which will honour the best of our beautiful game. The most prominent players and figures from beach soccer will be in attendance for the gala, and the greatest will be rewarded for their 2015 efforts. The whole extravanganza, including the tournament, will all be broadcast on www.beachsoccer.com, and aired to more than 120 countries around the world through different TV corporations.
Action at the Dubai Marine International Club kick starts tomorrow, with a thrilling Portugal-Mexico, kicking off at 16.15, followed by the game facing the hosts and Egypt (17.30). After that, former Intercontinental and World Champions Russia will take on Argentina (18:45), before World Cup runner ups Tahiti face Iran in the last game of the day (20:00). Besides the flashing action on the sand, fans will be treated with an unforgettable atmosphere, dance performances, and a fan zone full of activities for the entire family. Entrance is free, and thrill will just not stop.
