Vasco and EC Vitoria to vie for Libertadores!

The two Brazilian sides will fight for the South American throne, following two wins over Acasusso and Sampaio Correa

Defending Champions Vasco da Gama will take on EC Vitoria with the idea of grasping their third consecutive Copa Libertadores this coming Sunday, after a narrow 5-4 win over Argentinea side Acasusso.  

The Trem Bala seemed to be well in control of the game, with a 3-1 lead, but Acasusso managed to react to finally equalize the game 4-4. Despite the big effort, though, Acasusso saw Mauricinho nod Bokinha’s cross home, sealing the go through to the final for the Carioca.  

In the first semifinal, Vitoria edged Sampaio Correa in the penalty kick shootout of a thrilling and tightly-contested game. The game ended with a 6-6 draw, with André Bigode (2), Caique, Reyder, Anderson and Sidney scoring for Vitoria and Eudin (2), Felipe (2), Rodrigo and Zé Lucas doing it for Sampaio Correa.

But in the penalty kick shootout, Bobo, denied Serginho’s attempt to send the Rubro-negro onto the final, scheduled for 11 am (Rio de Janeiro local time). 

Before the final, Sampaio Correa, earmarked by many as the biggest favourites this year, and the Argentinean side of Acasusso will fight for the Bronze in Rio de Janeiro (9:45 am – local time).
