This year is different – Jordan Santos

The Portuguese international shares his thoughts ahead of an intense year of beach soccer as preparation commences

As the Portuguese side wrap up an intensive three-day training camp in Rio Maior, just north of Lisbon, Jordan Santos highlighted the importance of efficient preparation ahead of the hectic year of beach soccer to come.

Over the past few days, the Portuguese international side have been training hard at the Rio Maior sports training facilities.

Mario Narcisso’s men have got their eyes firmly set on the biggest prize in beach soccer: the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, which will take place this year in Paraguay.

But first, they need to qualify, and Jordan Santos has expressed his opinions on the state of the squad and the necessary groundwork that needs to be put in.

“It is always good to come together again to try and reach the potential of the team. At this time of the season, each player has a different rhythm and it is fundamental that we are all on the same level ahead of a season in which we are going to compete in many competitions.” commented Jordan Santos.

The SC Braga and Portugal defender cannot deny that this season is special, for one main reason. “This year is different. We are talking about the most important competition in the world.”

He asserted that “there is no doubt we want to qualify and make a good claim to the world title. 2015 was an incredible year because we were world champions on home soil for our friends and families to see.”

Jordan, also shared some analysis on the current state of the squad, commenting on the mix between veteran and youth players, which characterizes the team. “The future of Portuguese beach soccer is bright. It’s been great to see the young players develop, as well as the quality they demonstrate.”

He concluded with a statement of ambition seemingly directed at the next generation of Portuguese beach soccer talent. “I hope they will help us to reach the World Cup.”
