Switzerland are the champions in Torredembarra

With one day yet to be played, no one has any chance of catching the Alpine in the table. Portugal seal the tickets to The Hague, too

Switzerland became mathematically the winners of the Power HorseEuro Beach Soccer League Torredembarra, after their victory over Spain today. In turn, the defeat mean for Spaniards they only have one chance left if they want to seal the tickets to The Hague. Joaquín Alonso’s side need to win Portugal in the closing game of the stage they are hosting if they want to seize enough points to overtake Italy and Poland, once Switzerland and Portugal have secured their berth, too.

The Swiss, despite not being able to bank on their target man Dejan Stankovic, fielded one of their best versions today. Their collective moves were a sharp weapon against which Spaniars were left helpless, despite an amusing support from the packed stands.

Although local hero Llorenç managed to counteract Spacca’s early opener with two goals for the 2-1,second period meant the turning point for the Swiss. Once they got up front again, they would never lose the game’s leadership again. Spain kept trying, even managing to repeatedly cut the distance a bit, but Switzerland was feeling too strong today, and the final 5-8 means La Roja will have to play, all or nothing, against Madjer’s Porugal tomorrow.

Ukraine rolls over Andorra (13-1)

The Ukrainian National Team proved absolutely merciless and inflicted Andorra a severe punishment in the game opening this second day of the Power Horse Euro Beach Soccer League Torredembarra 2012. The 13-1 speaks for its own, and, at the same time gets things really well headed for Bozhenko’s side regarding their chances of getting into the Promotion Final next week. Even a defeat tomorrow, if it is not too wide, would give Ukraine the place in the Hague. In turn, no chances are left for Andorra.

Indeed, the Ukrainians regard nothing else than the Promotion Final as a proper closing of their European season. They cannot afford a new disappointment after seeing Israel close the doors in last edition, and, as the moment of the truth comes closer, they become more and more competitive. Andorra were the ones forced to stomach that today, enjoying no real chances at any time during the game.

Hitting their opponent once and again, Ukraine reached the end of the first period already 3-0 ahead, and heard the second horn with a wider advantage: 8-0. Blázquez could have the only and shy say for his side, managing the 11-1 for the Pyrenean, but his cheekiness was again punished by the tyrannical Ukrainians, who pushed the score to 13-1 in the last minutes to get their sixth points in Torredembarra, adding a terrific goal-average register: +14…

Goals: 1-0: Riabchuk, min. 8 (1); 2-0: Zborovskiy, min. 4 (1); 3-0: Budzko, min. 0 (1); 4-0: Gladchenko, min. 7 (2) ; 5-0: Zborovskiy, min. 5 (2); 6-0: Riabchuk, min. 5 (2); 7-0: Korniichuk, min. 4 (2); 8-0: Illichov, min. 2 (2); 9-0: Zvorobskiy, min. 8 (3); 10-0: Budzko, min. 6 (3); 11-0: Andreiev, min. 5 (3); 11-1: Blázquez, min. 5 (3); 12-1: Riabchuk, min. 2 (3); 13-1: Zvorobskiy, min. 1 (3)

Estonia edges England to tighten things up in Division B

Estonia’s tight win over England left things absolutely open in the Division B pool of this Power Horse Euro Beach Soccer League Torredembarra taking place this weekend in Spain. After a thrilling battle, two comebacks included, the Estonians prevailed, what got them joining the race to the Promotion Final together with the English and the Ukrainians.

England had to face a really rough beginning, as, yet at the very kick-off move, Siska opened the score for the Estonians, with Galkin widening the advantage with the 0-2 just one minute afterwards. The panorama was getting too cloudy, and the English National Team needed to react before the Estonians got too far. And so they did, with an amazing comeback.

Temple and Lawson balanced things back before the end of that busy first twelve minutes, and Evans, with a terrific goal from the halfway line, turned the score around. Unluckily for Bowes’s side, Sharaov ruined the English moment with a new equalizer little afterwards. The score did not move again during that second period, with the teams seemingly waiting for the last one to try and tackle the points. In that third time, both sides tried to reach their opponent’s end, but only the Estonians were able to find the back of the net. After Truusalu’s 3-4, nothing worked for England, who saw Aniko and co. finally snatching the points and having things set for a last day in what anything can happen in Division B.

Goals: 0-1: Siska, min. 11 (1); 0-2: Galkin, min. 10 (2); 1-2: Temple, min. 8 (1); 2-2: Lawson, min. 2 (1); 3-2: Evans, min. 11 (2); 3-3: Saharov, min. 7 (2); 3-4: Truusalu, min. 6 (3);

Dream last minute sends Portugal to The Hague

Two goals by Jordan and Coimbra in the last seconds of the game against Poland rescued Portugal and gave the Lusitanian the ticket to the Euro Beach Soccer League Superfinal. The Polish, just as Spain, will need to win tomorrow their last game to see themselves flying to The Hague.

After the goalless first period, nothing seemed to point that this game was to become a true goal frenzy. Indeed, the stroke exchange began immediately after the referee blew the second period on, and that twelve minutes saw up to eight goals, with special role played by Jose Maria, hat trick scorer for Portugal, and Bruno Novo, who immediately fixed his misfortunate own goal hit with a net in the right end.

The third period, instead, saw the Polish side amazingly counteracting to turn the score around from 5-3 to 6-5, with just two minutes to go. Poland seemed to be getting closer to the Superfinal, as the clock was heading for the final horn, but the remaining seconds meant room enough for Ze Miguel’s team not only leveling the score but even taking things beyond with Coimbra’s winner.

With these three points grasped in the last minute, Portugal joins Russia, Romainia and Switzerland in the Euro Beach Soccer League Superfinal. Just two tickets at stake, with Italy, Spain and Poland keeping options in a breathtaking last matchday.

Goals: 1-0: José Maria, min. 10 (2); 2-0: Jose Maria, min. 8 (2) ; 2-1 : Bruno Novo (og), min. 8 (2) ; 3-1 : Bruno Novo, min. 8 (2); 3-2: Baran, min. 5 (2); 4-2: Jordan, min. 2 (2); 4-3: Golanski, min. 4 (2); 5-3: José Maria, min. 1 (2); 5-4: Trzaskowski, min. 8 (3); 5-5: Olejniczak, min. 4 (3); 5-6: Frieszkemut, min. 2 (2); 6-6: Jordan, min. 1 (3); 7-6: Coimbra, min. 0 (3)
