II Mundialito de Clubes

Sweet beginning for Santos and Boca

Current champions Vasco da Gama suffer a heavy defeat in debut as only Lokomotive manages to get their sixth points

Sporting not able to derail Lokomotiv

Lokomotiv kept the highest place in Group C, after consistently beating Sporting Clube de Portugal in the opening game of the second day of the II Mundialito de Clubes. Displaying such an heavy-to-stomach pace as the Russian National side itself, the Muscovite got in control of the game and, despite the Lisboan being able to equalize the score repeatedly, the inertia of the match necessarily ended in a Russian win.

Indeed, it was in the very first ball touch that Lokomotiv got ahead in the score, thanks to captain Leonov, who placed the ball in the back of Graca’s nets with a perfectly-aimed kick-off shot. Spacca replied for the Leões, but, Shaykov blasted the 1-2 in right from the halfway line. Sporting kept on the pursuit, but again at the early stages of second leg, Makarov made it 1-3 for his side. Alan hit that goal back, but immediately after,  Daniel restored the two goals advantage for the Mouscovite.

Sporting tried to never lose face to such a hard game, but, although Madjer cut the distance a bit, the Russian lead was too solidly established at that moment, something Barasa secured with the 3-5 that gets Lokomotiv on top of group C.

Goals: 0-1: Leonov, min. 11 (1); 1-1: Spacca, min. 10, min. 10 (1); 1-2: Shaykov, min. 6 (1); 1-3: Makarov, min. 10; 2-3: Alan, min. 9 (2); 2-4: Daniel, min. 6 (2); 3-4: Madjer, min. 4 (2); 3-5: Barasa, min. 2(3);

Santos knocks current champions down

Santos had a brilliant beginning to the tournament, beating current champions Vasco da Gama in their debut game in the II Mundialito de Clubes. An amazing performance by signings Rafinha and Bruno Malias, supported by last year’s hero Spaniard Kuman was too much to cope with for the Gigante da Colina, who found their hands tied today in front of such a talent torrent from the ‘Peixe’ side.

A really tight, goalless first period made no one imagine what was going to happen in the second one. Rafinha and Bruno opened a huge gap in just a matter of minutes, making it 0-3, and, severely punished Vasco’s attempt to counteract with two more hits. This time, Kuman joined the party with his first hit today for the 1-5.

The score seemed wide enough for Santos to breathe deeply and regard the upcoming period as a enjoy-yourself one, but the carioca breed from their opponents would not let it be so. Bruno Xavier and Mauricinho cut the distance up to 3-5 before the end of the second leg, proving that it was not over yet. Notwithstanding Santos were too inspired today to let the match escape from their control, and Rafinha Carioca and Kuman netted two new balls to secure the points and the head of Group A.

Goals: 0-1: Rafinha, min. min. 7 (2); 0-2: Bruno, min. 6 (2); 0-3: Rafinha, min. 5 (2); 1-3: Catarino, min. 4 (2); 1-4: Bruno, min. 4 (2); 1-5: Kuman, min. 4(2); 2-5: Bruno Xavier, min. 1 (2); 3-5: Mauricinho, min. 10 (3); 3-6: Rafinha, min. 5 (3); 3-7: Kuman, min. 0 (3)

Corinthians finds their best version against Al Ahli

Al Ahli had to stomach the reaction of Corinthians after their defeat yesterday in Mundialito’s opener against Sporting Clube. The Timão das Areias found in the Arab side the victim to restate their role as one of the favourites after their bad beginning, and inflicted Hilal’s side a heavy defeat. Despite spirited Asians tried to counteract the Brazilian dominion, replying Buru’s opener through Datinha, things just worked perfectly out for Soares’s side today, and Juninho and Yahya made it 4-1 before first horn.

Corinthians took a break in the second period, something al Ahli took advantage of to make things up a bit with Bakhit’s 4-2. But when the referee blew for the third leg to begin, the Timão got down to work again to secure the points and give themselves the pleasure of a solid victory. André, with two goals, and Krash raised the 7-2 in the score, only to wait for Al Ahli’s reaction, through Datinha, to punish them back with two more hits to leave the final result in 9-3.

The last goal, by local hero Marcelinho carioca was the perfect end for a match in which the paulista side found the best sensations back after the bitter taste of a difficult beginning to this II Mundialito de Clubes. Now, they depend just on themselves to get to quarterfinals, needing a victory over Lokomotiv. Not easy, though…

Goals: 1-0: Buru, min. 9 (1); 1-1: Datinha, min. 9 (1); 2-1: Juninho, min. 5 (1); 3-1: Juninho, min. 2 (1); 4-1: Yahya, min. 1 (1); 4-2: Bakhit, min. 5 (2); 5-2: André, min. 11 (3); 6-2: Krash, min. 9 (3); 7-2: André, min. 5 (3); 7-3: Datinha, min. 1 (3);

Amazing comeback by Boca over AC Milan

Three goals is a quite significant advantage. It is at any sport, if you think about it. But it is not significant enough when we talk about Beach Soccer. This is what mighty Boca Juniors proved today after seeing themselves three goals down against AC Milan in the first period, only to equalize things before the referee blew the first period over. After that, the Xeneize team kept working to change things around, thus securing a victory that leaves them in a good position in Group A.

The first period of the game was absolutely crazy. AC Milan seemed to get things firmly going when, by the 7th minute, Stankovic, Palmacci and Pasquali had secured a more than comfortable advantage for the ‘rossoneri’. But the spirited Boca Juniors, in just two minutes, leveled things back through Dinho, Larreta and Leguizamon. Just amazing.

With such a terrific reaction, it was key for both sides not to lose temper, as there was still room for anything to happen. The Argentineans were, though, the ones to be colder-headed and uses all their weapons to go for the game. Fred, in the second period, and Hugo López by mid third, completed an amusing comeback to make the score 3-5. Milan tried by all means to get back on the road after such a heavy stroke, but no formula seemed to work for Del Duca’s lads. Only a last breath header by Palmacci, managing the 4-5, managed some reply. But that was everything for the transalpine, who will now need to beat Santos tomorrow to stay on the race.

Goals: 1-0: Stankovic, min. 8 (1); 2-0: Palmacci, min. 5 (1); 3-0: Pasquali, min. 4 (1); 3-1: Dinho, min. 4 (1); 3-2: Larreta, min. 3 (1); 3-3: Leguizamón, min. 2 (1); 3-4: Fred, min. 2(2); López, min. 6 (3); 4-5: Palmacci, min. 0 (3);
