Sweet and bitter tasted in Ravenna

Italy gets surprised by Romania and Switzerland gets the point in a last breath penalty kick by Mo. Belarus runs over Azerbaijan

Belarus kicks Azerbaijan out

An intense Belarus run over Azerbaijan in the second Division B match of this Euro Beach Soccer League stage played in Ravenna, to leave the Azeri already out of the upcoming Promotion Final. Hatamov’s squad has been left with no options to repeat the brilliant victory in last year’s EBSL Lignano as only France and Belarus keep their options to the cup in Ravenna, and, consequently to the chance of fighting for a Division A berth next month in Moscow.

The Belarusian side early gave the match an unmistakable red colour, thanks to two goals that left the score 0-2 at the end of first period. With that advantage already at their hands, Dzemenkavets’ lads achieved a clear dominion and never saw their advantage in danger. Although being already in command, Belarus kept the protagonism, and went on punishing the Azeri net until the end of the game. Elshan’s long shot was the only reply to that predominance and it was far too little response to a scoreboard ending in a loud 1-6.

Goals: 0-1: Bryshtsel, min. 7 (1); 0-2: Bogaichuk, min. 5 (1); 0-3: Haiduk, min. 11 (3); 0-4: Bryshtsel, min. 7 (3); 1-4: Elshan, min. 5 (3); 1-5:  Niranovich, min. 3 (3); 1-6: Krupista, min. 1 (3)

Penalty saves Switzerland in last breath

Only three seconds remained when Mo’s attempt kissed the net to secure the three points for Switzerland in the thrilling battle fought with Poland. The match between Swiss and Polishs, was one of those to keep well recorded in every beach soccer fan’s collection: 13 goals, brilliant moves, great players doing their best, excitement until the very very last second…

When Stankovic swept his team 2-0 ahead in the first period, and having in mind the hierarchic performance by the Alpine yesterday, it seemed that they would not have many problems to add a new victory to their tally. But Poland was not for taking the victim role, and reacted with a wonderful performance by their captain and ‘Alma Mater’ Saganowski. With four goals, the Polish star turned that 2-0 into a 3-5, with the assistance of Ziober, responsible for the turning-point 3-4.

Switzerland needed to be Switzerland again if they wanted not to be thrown out of the Super Final. A defeat today would have meant serious complications for the current World Cup runner-ups, but they managed to react in time not to have something to regret… Mo, Stankovic and Rodrigues turned things around again, making it from 3-5 to 6-5. But it proved not enough, as Widziki balanced the scoreboard again. Seconds ticked down to extra time when Mo led a counterattack for the Swiss only to be knocked down by the same Widziki inside the Polish box. The captain pulse did not tremble a bit when faced to that highly decisive penalty kick, and slotted the ball in to clinch three new points that make Switzerland see future with another eyes.

Goals: 1-0: Stankovic, min. 9 (1); 2-0: Stankovic, min. 3 (1); 2-1: Saganowski, min 2; 3-1: Spacca, min. 0 (1); 3-2: Saganowski, min. 0 (1); 3-3: Saganowski, min. 10 (2). 3-4: Ziober, min. 7 (2); 3-5: Saganowski, min. 3 (2); 4-5: Mo, min. 6 (3); 5-5: Rodrigues, min. 5 (3); 6-5: Stankovic, min.5 (3); 6-6: Widziki, min. 2 (3) ; 7-6 : Mo, min. 0 (3)

Italy surprised in own soil by Romania

Italy found a painful defeat in their second match in this Euro Beach Soccer League they are hosting in the Marina di Ravenna. Romania became an annoying visitor as clinching the victory thanks to a crushing 0-4 run after their goalkeeper managed to save all Italian attempts during the first stages of the game. The defeat leaves the Azzurri with nine points, and they will need to bend Switzerland tomorrow if they want not to depend on the mathematics to make their way to Moscow’s EBSL Super Final.

First stages of the game had the unmistakable protagonists: the guys in black at both ends. Both goalkeepers highlighted that beach soccer is not only amazing goals, but miraculous saves as well. Especially Gandac, for Romania, threw hands and feet to any attempt heading the back of his net. But by mid third period, M. Poste finally opened the score, heading in a throw in assist by Maci. That was just the beginning of Italy’s pains, as the wonderful left footed Romanian forward would widen the advantage with two new goals for the 0-3, further increased with I. Poste’s 0-4.

Too difficult were things for the hosts at that point, and although Leghissa tried to get his team back in the game, Lucio restored the 4-goals gap with just four minutes to go. Feudi’s last missile was worth the final 2-5, which could be significant for the final overall goal average.

Goals: 0-1: M. Poste, min. 4 (2); 0-2: Maci, min. 1  (3); 0-3: Maci, min. 8 (3); 0-4, I. Poste, min. 7 (3); 1-4: Leghissa, min. 6 (3); 1-5: Lucio, min. 5 (3); 2-5: Feudi, min. 1 (3)
