Romanian delegate Ionita passes away

Beach soccer loses a very talented friend as we say goodbye to Valeriu Ionita

On the evening of January 8th, delegate of the Romanian national beach soccer team, Valeriu Ionita, very sadly passed away after fighting illness for several months.

Mr Ionita (61) successfully assisted the side in reaching the 2018 Promotion Final in Alghero, Italy this past summer, just missing out on promotion to Division A to Germany in a penalty shootout.

It was not long after this that he fell ill and would tragically never recover.

Born April 12, 1957, Valeriu Ionita refereed in the Romanian top two leagues between 1990 and 2002, racking up almost 220 games.

It is with deep sadness that we say goodbye to a true friend of beach soccer and a very talented man.

Our thoughts are with Mr Ionita’s family, friends and teammates at this very difficult time.
