Pavia Lokrians win the women’s World Winners Cup!

Brazilian stars clinch the trophy for the Italian side in the final

Pavia Lokrians managed to down Lady Grembach in a fiercely fought final to take home the first ever World Winners Cup.

Barbara Colodetti, who won both the MVP and Top Scorer award, scored a double for the Pavia Lokrians, as did 2017 player of the year nominee, Lele Villar.

Although Lady Grembach didn’t bag the World Winners Cup, they finished a more than respectable second, and goalkeeper Ana Beatriz, who also scored a double in the final, won the trophy for being the Best Goalkeeper.

Many players from the newly-formed Brazilian national team, fresh from taking bronze in the World Beach Games in Qatar, were split between these two clubs and they ultimately made the difference between victory and defeat…

Getting to the final had been far from easy for these sides, neither of whom had gone undefeated during the group stages, and the first ever World Winners Cup final yet another tough test.

In fact, the only loss that Lady Grembach Lodz suffered was at the hands of their finalist rivals, and that match went to extra time.

Ana Beatriz, as of yet unaware that she would win the Best Goalkeeper award, got Lady Grembach in front midway through the opening period with a long-range missile.

The Brazilian star Lele Villar struck back before the break, but after the restart her national teammate Lorena retook the lead for the Polish club.

The match fired up as the time ticked away and Colodetti pounced on parried save from her own freekick to get her name on the scoresheet and when she added another she topped the scoring list.

Villar also tucked away a second, and this proved to be the decisive one as Ana Be’s second rocket was the last of the Grembach scoring, leaving the final score at a predictable close 4-3.

So, the very first World Winners Cup goes back to Italy with Pavia Lokrians, who make beach soccer history with their triumph.

We are already looking forward to next year!
