Marseille, Grand Est conquer French championship

The former clinched a fourth title while the latter are the country’s first women’s beach soccer champions.

Marseille BT and Grand Est were victors at the National Beach Soccer in Canet-en-Roussillon, France, on Sunday.

The men’s and women’s finals brought a close to the popular three-day tournament on the country’s south coast with the men’s event seeing a host of international beach soccer stars, including FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup winner Didier Samoun, entertain the crowds.

Marseille ultimately claimed their fourth national title with a 7-6 win against Montpellier Herault BS while 2016 champions Grande Motte Pyramide BS finished in third.

Newly-crowned champions Marseille will now be guaranteed a spot at next year’s Euro Winners Cup, as will Grand Est who finished top of the four-team women’s tournament.

In the inaugural women’s championship, Grand Est – coached by Jerome Beaulande and Patrice Feys – edged Occitanie, Mediterranee and Hauts-de-France to write themselves into the history books.
