First points fly to Paraguay, Ecuador, Brazil and Argentina

The Eliminatorias CONMEBOL al Mundial de Futbol Playa de la FIFA kick off with tight games and suspense

It will never stop amazing us how balanced and hard-fought can matches be at such a competitive pool as the South American beach soccer stage.

The first day in Asunción, where the Eliminatorias CONMEBOL al Mundial de Futbol Playa de la FIFA are taking place showcased that once again.

Only Brazil, who ran past Venezuela with a sound performance from hat-trick scorer Lucão, managed to win comfortably, with a wide score. Gilberto’s lads keep extending their invincibility in a pretty amazing fashion, displaying a brilliant but effective brand of beach soccer capable of disarming any opponent.

Hosts Paraguay, in turn, could not seal their victory until the third period, in a match in which Bolivia made things truly hard for the Guaraní. Guga’s side enjoyed a wider ball possession and more goal chances, but La Verde seemed always ready to upset them until Moran’s free kick late in the last frame secured things for Paraguay.

Still in Group A, Argentina needed to tighten their rearguard in their game against Chile. The Albiceleste was apparently comfortable, leading 4-2, but the late reaction by La Roja had them facing tough moments in the final period. Medero’s brace helped the Argentineans capture the three points at stake to follow Paraguay on top of the table.

In the first game in the competition, Ecuador snatched one point from the penalty kick spot after a laudable reaction by Colombia. Actually… two reactions by Colombia. First one, in the second frame, when coming from 4-1 behind to even get 4-5, and the second one, with the equalizer, almost over the hooter, that sent the game to the penalty kick shootout.

Action resumes tomorrow in Paraguay, with four more matches that will keep picturing how things progress in this Eliminatorias CONMEBOL al Mundial de Futbol Playa de la FIFA – Asunción 2017.
